What do you have on tap?

Tuesday, April 26

Been feeling blue about the end of the Minnesota Opera season?  Can't wait until Opera Tasting 2011 for a quick fix of favorite arias?  Filling the void this Wednesday the 27th at 10 pm, Red Stag Supper Club comes to the rescue by hosting Opera on Tap

Opera on Tap has chapters in 7 cities presenting opera with a casual, back stage party atmosphere.  As they say:

'In 2005 we created Opera on Tap as a performance outlet for our friends and
ourselves. We wanted an opera "gig" in the vein of the New York rock or jazz gig.
Freddy’s Bar and Backroom provided us with the opportunity. It was an
affordable way to have fun together and work on our music at the same time...'

This sounds like it would be right up Tempo's alley, we can't wait to check it out!

"Master Opera Class"

Wednesday, April 13

For opera lovers everywhere, this Sunday, April 17 and Sunday, May 1 at the 2011 Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival, "Master Opera Class" will show you what it takes to become the next opera star.

"What does it take to become the next world-class opera star? Watch as 500 young international talents audition for the prestigious Opera Studio, a master class at the world-renowned Bavarian State Opera, with General Music Director Kent Nagano.

Stage fright, doubt, intense pressure, hard work, and plenty of stage makeup lies ahead of the lucky seven accepted into the program. All in their mid-twenties, at the edge of their careers, the singers go through tireless training with the remarkable French Maestro Laurent Pillot. Over time allowed to perform small roles in one of the world’s foremost opera houses, they test the waters of opera stardom.

Meanwhile, Monsieur Pillot is already hot on the audition trail of the next divo or diva to grace the ears of opera connoisseurs around the world. Who will succeed in this highly competitive business of lungpower and vocal precision? And who will be stuck waiting in the wings? For opera lovers everywhere."

Tempo's Opera Night Out - Update!

Tuesday, April 12

Tempo's programming committee has developed a stellar reputation for fabulous parties, and this Saturday's Opera Night Out will be no exception.

You may have heard the Tempo cast party will be channeling the serious glamour of Hollywood circa the 1950s, (we can't wait to see attendees crinolines and skinny ties), but you probably haven't heard we invited style icon Marilyn Monroe to attend!

We were thrilled when she accepted and graciously offered to meet and snap a picture with each and every party guest!  The photo ops alone should have you running to Sakura after the opera!

Fifties Fashion

Tuesday, April 5

With Wuthering Heights closing the Minnesota Opera's 2010 - 2011 season this month, the theme at the next Opera Night Out cast party is all about 1950s Hollywood glamour.  So what does that mean in terms of fashion?  Think Christian Dior, petticoats, furs, and style icons Grace Kelly and Gregory Peck.

But what about the hairstyles, you ask?  Ladies, think soft curls, romantic, stylish and natural, but we mustn't forget about the ultimate 1950s updo, the beehive.  As for the gents, think very sharp and extremely styled with loads of styling creams so there isn't a hair out of place, i.e., Cary Grant.

Where: Sakura, 350 Saint Peter Street, St. Paul, MN 55102
